Viking Unveils New River Cruises in India

Viking has announced the launch of its first river cruises in India onboard the Viking Brahmaputra, a modern 80-guest vessel designed specifically for the Brahmaputra River. This new cruise is currently in the construction phase and is slated to launch in late 2027. The Viking Brahmaputra will create a new benchmark for river travel in India, navigating between Guwahati and Nimati Ghat in Assam as part of its 15-day Wonders of India itinerary. Along with an eight-day river journey, the itinerary offers guided experiences in Delhi, Agra, and Jaipur.

With its rich history and vibrant culture, India has long captivated explorers, remarked Torstein Hagen, Viking’s Chairman and CEO. He expressed excitement about allowing modern travelers a comfortable way to probe deeper into the heart of the country.

The Viking Brahmaputra is designed to hold 80 passengers in 40 river-facing staterooms, complete with floor-to-ceiling glass doors leading to private verandas. Guests will also find a spa, fitness center, and a sky bar on the upper deck.

The Wonders of India program will run roundtrip from Delhi, encompassing stays in Delhi, Agra, and Jaipur, while showcasing 13 included tours at ten UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Sightseeing will include visits to India’s iconic Taj Mahal and local treasures throughout the regions surrounding the Brahmaputra.

Additionally, Viking is introducing tailored pre- and post-cruise land extensions to enhance the travel experience further.
