
AirAsia Malaysia Introduces New Route from Kuala Lumpur to Darwin
AirAsia Malaysia has officially launched its inaugural flight from Kuala Lumpur to Darwin with strong demand.
AirAsia Malaysia (flight code AK) has successfully initiated its inaugural route from Kuala Lumpur to Darwin with nearly 90% passenger load, emphasizing its role in enhancing tourism in the Northern Territory. The maiden flight AK612 departed Kuala Lumpur International Airport at 5:55 AM on June 27, 2025, arriving at Darwin International Airport at 12:35 PM local time. The return journey recorded over 90% occupancy, underscoring Malaysia’s attractiveness as a leading destination ahead of Visit Malaysia 2026.
The establishment of this route, coupled with new services connecting Bali and Adelaide, is a significant step for AirAsia, solidifying its robust relationship with Australia. These initiatives reflect the group’s ongoing efforts to broaden its network, improving regional connectivity while providing diverse travel choices for tourism and trade opportunities.
Minister Robyn Cahill OAM celebrated the route’s launch, remarking, ‘The Territory’s aviation sector continues to grow stronger with this route boosting tourism and enhancing business connections.’
Dato’ Captain Fareh Mazputra of AirAsia Malaysia noted, ‘Darwin is now an integral part of our expanding Australian network, strengthening our presence in the region.’
Furthermore, Datuk Manoharan Periasamy expressed optimism regarding the route’s impact on tourism and business ties between Malaysia and Australia as they prepare to commemorate 70 years of diplomatic relations in 2025.
AirAsia will run four weekly flights, offering over 1,488 seats each week at competitive fares, significantly enhancing accessibility and bolstering local economies.
