ABTA Collaborates with RLSS UK for Holiday Water Safety Awareness
ABTA and the Royal Life Saving Society UK are joining forces to promote water safety for holidaymakers this summer.
ABTA is collaborating with the Royal Life Saving Society UK (RLSS UK) to enhance awareness regarding water safety during holidays, especially in unfamiliar environments for families. As summer approaches, following RLSS UK’s Drowning Prevention Week (14-21 June), there is an opportunity to remind travelers about the importance of water safety and self-assurance before embarking on their trips. In partnership, ABTA and RLSS UK have created the Holiday Water Safety Toolkit, providing ABTA members with resources to relay essential safety tips to customers.
Given the alarming incidences of drownings of British tourists abroad this year, it is paramount for travelers to recognize the risks and take precautions.
The guidance offered in the Holiday Water Safety Toolkit is based on RLSS UK’s Water Safety Code and includes vital information for travelers on how to maintain safety while overseas and emergency protocols.
The toolkit promotes holidaymakers to:
- Practice swimming skills prior to departure and wear brightly colored swimwear.
- Supervise children closely, within arm’s reach, regardless of lifeguard presence.
- Stay together while near water.
- Learn emergency response methods if problems arise.
ABTA members can find the toolkit on the Marketing Toolkit available in the Member Zone at abta.com/marketingtoolkit. It offers social media graphics, pre-written posts, and a blog, ensuring continuous access throughout summer marketing efforts.
Graeme Buck, Director of Communications at ABTA, stated: “Enjoying the water is central to many people’s holiday experiences. Sadly, every year, some find themselves in distress, with fatalities occurring in these situations. Proper knowledge reduces the likelihood of accidents, allowing families to enjoy water activities safely together.”
Matt Croxall, Charity Director of RLSS UK, emphasized: “Holidays are prime time for families to bond over water activities. As we approach summer, it’s crucial to prioritize water safety. The Water Safety Code serves as an excellent conversation starter for families to ensure a secure and enjoyable vacation. Our collaboration with ABTA helps us disseminate crucial safety information effectively.”
