Luxury travel continues to dominate, with five-star hotels making up 40.92% of bookings and four-star hotels at 32.22%.
Wego, the online travel marketplace for the Middle East, has reported a notable change in travel behaviors for summer 2025, with solo travelers now representing 78.82% of all bookings. This trend is particularly observed among younger demographics seeking adventures, personal exploration, and business opportunities.
Luxury travel remains strong, with five-star hotels accounting for 40.92% and four-star hotels for 32.22% of bookings. The findings reflect a new phase in Saudi tourism, driven by more accessible visa options, value for money, and richer cultural experiences.
Popular destinations for Saudi travelers include Egypt, India, Pakistan, and Türkiye, with Pakistan experiencing a 4.78% year-on-year increase in interest, despite a 21.29% hike in airfares.
European spots like Georgia, Azerbaijan, and Italy saw moderate search growth, while Asian travel favorites like Indonesia, Thailand, and the Philippines continue to lure tourists with their stunning scenery and cultural richness.
Vietnam has emerged notably as a rising star in travel options, reporting a staggering 322.43% increase in searches compared to the previous year.
Industry analysts attribute these shifts to the introduction of luxury halal-compliant resorts and a significant drop of 43.06% in average airfare from Saudi Arabia.
Armenia is attracting growing attention, marked by a 142.68% rise in search activity, thanks to new visa policies allowing Saudi citizens to visit without a visa starting July 2025.
“We are witnessing a clear shift among Saudi travelers toward discovering destinations that offer deeper cultural and experiential value” — said Mamoun Hmidan, Chief Business Officer at Wego. “Summer 2025 reflects this transformation in travel behavior, where the focus is not just on the destination itself, but on the richness of the journey.”
“The rise in interest for Vietnam and Armenia underscores the growing demand for diverse, value-driven travel experiences. At Wego, we aim to empower travelers with data and insights that help them make confident, personalized choices.”
