
AirAsia Celebrated as the Leading Low-Cost Airline for the 16th Consecutive Year
The airline was honored at this year’s Skytrax World Airline Awards held in Paris, France
AirAsia was named the World’s Best Low-Cost Airline for the 16th year in a row at the Skytrax World Airline Awards 2025 on June 17. This recognition reaffirms AirAsia’s status as a leader in affordable travel.
At the awards, Skytrax’s CEO Edward Plaisted stated, “We congratulate AirAsia for this remarkable achievement at the 2025 World Airline Awards. Their consistent success highlights their commitment to providing quality travel options in a competitive market.”
The award reflects AirAsia’s extensive network of over 130 destinations, showing their dedication to affordable and operationally excellent travel. AirAsia uses a multi-hub strategy across Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Cambodia to provide accessible travel options.
In a speech at the Paris Air Show, Kamarudin Meranun, AirAsia’s co-founder, expressed that this recognition remains significant after 16 years. He noted, “We started with a simple dream to make flying affordable for everyone. This recognition proves our commitment to that mission.”
Tony Fernandes, co-founder and CEO, also shared his emotional connection to this achievement, highlighting the growth from 200,000 passengers in their first year to aiming for their billionth customer this year.
As AirAsia continues to expand, they are set to enhance connections in Central Asia and the Middle East, striving to become a truly global low-cost carrier. This award serves as an affirmation of their impactful contributions to connecting both significant and underserved regions.
