Thailand Embraces Marriage Equality with New Law
The Tourism Authority of Thailand announces the implementation of the country's marriage equality law, welcoming LGBTQ+ couples with celebrations and initiatives.
The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has embraced marriage equality with the enactment of a new law as of January 23, 2025. On this notable date, 1,754 LGBTQ+ couples registered their marriages nationwide during a grand celebration.
TAT Governor Thapanee Kiatphaibool remarked: “The enactment of Thailand’s marriage equality law is a major milestone for our tourism industry. It showcases our commitment to diversity and inclusivity, positioning Thailand as Asia’s premier LGBTQ+ tourism destination.”
In celebration of this achievement, TAT is hosting events and exclusive promotions for LGBTQ+ couples throughout February, which is marked as the Month of Love. These initiatives emphasize Thailand’s reputation as a welcoming destination for all travelers.
A Celebration of Love
Marriage Equality Day at Paragon Hall in Siam Paragon featured over 300 participating couples amidst a wedding parade, exhibitions, and live performances. Across the country, southern locations like Ko Samui began their first LGBTQ+ marriage registrations, highlighting romantic celebrations.
Couples enjoyed unique experiences, including discounts on accommodations, dining, honeymoon packages, and special events to commemorate the law.
This nationwide movement reinforces Thailand’s identity as an inclusive society that welcomes diverse travelers with open arms.
