Vietjet Thailand Unveils Green Route Initiative

Vietjet Thailand embarks on an eco-friendly journey with its new Green Route initiative aimed at advancing sustainable aviation practices.

Vietjet Thailand Takes a Step Towards Sustainable Aviation

Vietjet Thailand has officially launched its Green Route initiative, affirming the airline’s commitment to environmental responsibility and sustainable aviation. This new program focuses on increasing the use of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) on both domestic and international flights, including routes such as Bangkok to Chiang Mai and Bangkok to Phu Quoc, set to begin in the third quarter of this year.

Once this initiative is fully operational, it will signify a significant advancement in Vietjet Thailand’s pledge towards greener skies. As CEO Woranate Laprabang stated:

“SAF is more than an innovation: it embodies a global responsibility that fuels our commitment to advancing sustainable aviation. The Green Route project exemplifies this mission, calling for a united effort from governments, fuel producers, aircraft manufacturers, and passengers alike. Together, we are shaping the future of sustainable aviation and a greener world.”

Vietjet aims to utilize a minimum of 1% SAF by 2026 and 5% by 2030, aligning with broader aviation sector goals aimed at reducing emissions in accordance with global climate commitments.

The Green Route initiative follows Vietjet Thailand’s historic achievement in July 2024, when it operated its first commercial flight using SAF on the Bangkok – Da Nang route. This marked a crucial step in promoting environmentally responsible operations and established a solid foundation for further expansion under the Green Route project, showcasing the airline’s commitment to sustainable aviation practices. SAF is recognized globally as a pivotal solution for reducing the aviation industry’s environmental footprint, with the potential to cut carbon emissions by up to 80% across its lifecycle compared to traditional fuels.
