David Morgan of Air New Zealand Receives New Zealand Order of Merit

Captain David Morgan has been recognized with the New Zealand Order of Merit (ONZM) in the 2025 King’s Birthday Honours List for his distinguished service in aviation. Morgan has dedicated over 40 years to Air New Zealand, serving in pivotal positions such as chief flight operations and safety officer and chief pilot since joining in May 1985. This acknowledgment highlights his exceptional contributions to aviation safety, leadership, and mentorship both locally and globally.

In a statement, Greg Foran, Chief Executive of Air New Zealand, emphasized the deep impact Morgan has had on the airline’s culture, stating, “When people think of Air New Zealand, many will think of Captain David Morgan. His leadership has helped define who we are today.” The chair of Air New Zealand, Dame Therese Walsh, also praised Morgan, noting his influence across various sectors of aviation and his commitment to mentoring future leaders.

A legend in global aviation

Captain Morgan started his journey with Air New Zealand in 1985, advancing to chief pilot in 2003, and later joining the executive board in 2005 until stepping down earlier this year. He is set to resume flying with the Airbus A320 fleet and has significantly contributed to the airline’s global recognition through his leadership roles in international aviation organizations.
