Renfe Unveils New Direct AVE Services Between Madrid and Barcelona
Renfe introduces direct AVE trains to enhance connectivity between Spain's major cities.
On May 22, Renfe will introduce two new direct AVE services without intermediate stops connecting Madrid and Barcelona, enhancing travel connectivity between these significant Spanish cities. This service will be operational on Thursdays, allowing one train per direction.
With these new additions, Renfe will now offer a total of 56 high-speed train frequencies on Thursdays, equating to 28 journeys in both directions. This makes Thursdays the busiest day of the week for travels between Madrid and Barcelona, with 20 of the scheduled trains being direct, enabling travelers to complete the journey in just over two and a half hours.
The new schedules are as follows: the AVE from Madrid to Barcelona departs from the Puerta de Atocha-Almudena Grandes station at 13:57, arriving at Barcelona Sants station at 16:34. In reverse, the train leaves Barcelona Sants at 14:25, arriving in Madrid at 17:01.
This initiative strengthens Renfe’s offerings and its leadership in the Madrid-Barcelona corridor, the busiest high-speed rail route in Spain, ensuring that passengers enjoy optimal travel conditions and services.
Tickets for these new services are already available through Renfe’s usual sales channels: on the website www.renfe.com, ticket counters, vending machines at stations, through virtual and physical agencies, via the Renfe app, and by calling 91 232 03 20.
