Thailand’s Cultural Influence Shines at Cannes Film Festival
Thailand’s soft power takes center stage at the Cannes Film Festival through the Thai Night event on May 15.
The Department of International Trade Promotion (DITP) from Thailand’s Ministry of Commerce will showcase the country’s entertainment sector globally at this prestigious festival.
Thai Night aims not only to enhance the image of Thailand’s entertainment industry but also to encourage international collaborations. The launch of the event was honored by Her Royal Highness Princess Ubolratana Rajakanya Sirivadhana Barnavadi in France.
A Culturally Significant Evening
Thai Night, held annually since 2011, serves as a vital platform to promote Thailand’s entertainment industry. This event aids in fostering partnerships between Thai entrepreneurs and international stakeholders, ensuring sustainable development in the sector.
The celebration provides an excellent opportunity to showcase Thailand’s rich culture internationally and features a Thai Pavilion, where film representatives engage in business matchmaking with global partners. This pavilion is situated at Booth 22.01 in the Palais des Festivals et des Congrès de Cannes and will operate from May 13 to 21.
Advocating for Thai Cinema
As stated by Sunanta Kangvalkulkij, the Director-General of DITP, the Thai film sector is rapidly expanding with notable improvements in production quality and heightened participation in international film festivals。
Kangvalkulkij highlighted that Thai films now hold about 50% market share domestically, competing closely with international films. This reflects a growing local interest in Thai cinema, as Thai Night acts as a platform to exhibit the pride and quality of Thai films, bolstering Thailand’s soft power through the film sector.
The event not only charms global audiences with Thailand’s culture and creativity but also opens avenues for international business networking, ensuring the continued growth of Thailand’s film industry.
