With summer holidays fast approaching, the Schengen region is once again emerging as the preferred destination for Indian travelers. According to data from Atlys, a visa-processing platform, there has been a notable 29% increase in Schengen visa applications compared to last year, showing the region’s ongoing allure for those seeking sunlit experiences and cultural immersion.
Popular entry points into the Schengen area as per Atlys data are Portugal, Greece, Spain, and Italy. These countries draw visitors with their vibrant local cultures, robust tourism infrastructure, and welcoming ambiance. Gen Z and Millennial travelers have significantly driven this growth, with Atlys noting a 23.5% rise in visa requests from younger travelers eager for extended European vacations.
While major cities like Mumbai, Delhi, and Bengaluru remain prominent sources of visa applications, Atlys has also observed a meaningful shift towards tier-two cities, including Pune, Ahmedabad, and Chandigarh, where applications increased by 17.8% over the past year. This trend highlights Europe’s expanding appeal beyond India’s metropolitan areas.
“We’re witnessing a new wave of Indian travelers who are exploring the world with greater intention and curiosity,” said Mohak Nahta, Founder and CEO of Atlys. “Travel today isn’t just about visiting landmarks; it’s about experiencing cultures, connecting with people, and creating lasting memories.”
For luxury seekers, France, Italy, and Switzerland top the list. From the serene vineyards of Tuscany to the luxurious ambience of the French Riviera and the tranquil lakes of Switzerland, these destinations offer an indulgent experience. On the other hand, adventure enthusiasts are increasingly attracted to Austria, Slovenia, and parts of northern Spain, where alpine sports and hiking trails offer adrenaline-filled escapes.
The Mediterranean climate is perfect for summer holidays, providing ideal travel conditions with temperatures ranging from 20-30°C across most Schengen countries, allowing travelers to enjoy long daylight hours and outdoor activities.
Atlys continues to empower Indian travelers by simplifying visa processes, making global exploration effortless, and helping turn their European summer dreams into reality.
