AENA Confirms Continuity of Spanish Airports Following Power Outage
Following a recent blackout affecting multiple infrastructures in Spain, AENA assures that all airports remained operational.
Following a power outage that impacted various infrastructures across Spain, AENA communicated the operational status of its airports, confirming that they remained functional by promptly activating backup electrical systems.
Since the incident began, all AENA-affiliated airports adjusted their schedules, including night operations, to accommodate passenger needs and rescheduled flights. Despite the challenges, 93% of commercial flights were operational, showcasing the robustness and efficiency of the Spanish airport network.
The main issues occurred at airport access points, where both public and private transport suffered disruptions in several cities. Furthermore, ENAIRE’s implemented regulations limited airspace capacity, leading to some flight cancellations. However, AENA reported no significant crowding at terminals, and services for passengers functioned properly.
AENA activated crisis committees at all airports, along with the overall network committee from the outset of the issue. This facilitated continuous communication with airlines and ENAIRE, ensuring operations ran smoothly the previous day. Crisis forums remain active to maintain efficiency in air transport management.
Additionally, AENA continues to operate all scheduled flights and reassign passengers from rescheduled journeys. Nonetheless, further impacts are expected due to the general strike in Belgium, which may affect some itineraries.
AENA advises passengers to check the status of public transport services connecting to the airports and to consult with their airlines regarding their flight statuses, as rescheduling may occur following the changes implemented.
Finally, AENA thanks passengers for their understanding and acknowledges all teams involved for their dedication and professionalism.
As the situation stabilizes, AENA is committed to ensuring the safety and comfort of all travelers using its infrastructures.
