Renfe has announced the restoration of normal train operations over almost all its services following a total power outage that disrupted the network on April 28th. This incident affected approximately 48,600 travelers across Spain.
Starting today, Renfe has successfully resumed 100% of services on its Cercanías lines, ensuring that passengers can continue their journeys with minimal inconvenience. On the R3 line of Rodalies de Catalunya, an alternative road service has been established between Puigcerdà and Ripoll, while the R4 south line faced temporary service disruptions due to a signaling breakdown impacting services to or from Sant Vicenç. Overall, other rail connections are operating smoothly.
Medium Distance trains have also returned to normal, with all Avant services being reinstated and resuming their regular schedules. In terms of commercial services, Renfe has restarted all its high-speed and long-distance lines, particularly those connecting Madrid with Catalunya, the Comunitat Valenciana, and Murcia. In Andalucía, all lines are operational, including long-distance and high-speed connections between Madrid and Galicia.
For travelers affected by the service interruption, Renfe has allowed refunds and exchanges of tickets at no additional cost via its sales channels. The company commits to keeping information updated on its social media and official channels to ensure that passengers are aware of any developments.
Out of the 48,638 affected travelers due to the power cut, Renfe managed to relocate 26,161 to other trains, enabling many of them to reach their destinations as quickly as possible.
Renfe appreciates the understanding of its travelers during this incident and reaffirms its commitment to providing a reliable and efficient service on Spain’s rail transport network. With normality restored, the company prepares to continue operating with the highest quality and safety standards.
