Mekong Tourism Forum to be Held in Luang Prabang this June

The Mekong Tourism Forum 2025 will take place in Luang Prabang, focusing on sustainable tourism development.

The Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism of Lao PDR (MICT), in collaboration with the Mekong Tourism Coordinating Office (MTCO), has announced that the Mekong Tourism Forum (MTF) 2025 will be held from June 25th to 27th in the UNESCO World Heritage City of Luang Prabang.

Focusing on the theme United Journey: Stronger Together, this year’s forum aims to unite tourism leaders, professionals, development partners, and private sector representatives from across the Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) to discuss shared solutions and innovative strategies for sustainable tourism development.

Phonemaly Inthaphome, director-general of the MICT Tourism Development Department, stated: “The Mekong Tourism Forum 2025 embodies our region’s commitment to making tourism a catalyst for shared prosperity. By fostering diverse voices within the GMS, we are eager to create an inclusive platform for dialogue and collaboration that ensures responsible, balanced, and beneficial tourism growth.”

Suvimol Thanasarakij, executive director of MTCO, added: “This year’s forum will emphasize how synergy across borders, sectors, and communities can cultivate a more resilient and inclusive future for Mekong tourism. We are enthusiastic about welcoming all stakeholders to participate in these vital discussions.”

Strengthening Regional Cooperation

Through collaborative discussions, immersive sessions, and intersectoral exchanges, the forum aims to enhance regional cooperation and amplify responsible, community-focused tourism initiatives across the Mekong.

MTF 2025 will feature expert-led discussions, thematic breakout sessions held at specially selected locations that align with the forum’s objectives, and the official unveiling of the GMS Tourism Strategy 2030. Participants will also have the opportunity to engage in thematic technical tours showcasing hands-on experiences that include traditional crafts, ecotourism explorations, and learning local practices alongside community members.

These activities aim to provide an authentic insight into Luang Prabang’s rich cultural and natural heritage.
