The survey examines the motivations and preferences of scuba diving fans from across 11 Asian markets, detailing their dream destinations and budgets for underwater adventures.

According to the findings, industry stakeholders and enthusiasts can gain a better understanding of what drives the scuba diving experience in this remarkable region.

Key Findings for 2025

  1. Indonesia Leads the Rankings: Indonesia is favored as the top scuba diving destination among Asian travelers, noted for its vibrant marine ecosystem and thrilling coral reefs. Following Indonesia are the Philippines, Thailand, Malaysia, and Vietnam, all highlighting the area’s underwater charm.

  2. Divers Seek Relaxation: About 30% of respondents indicated relaxation is their primary motivation for diving, particularly among those from the Philippines, Malaysia, and Thailand. Additionally, exploring marine life attracts 24% of divers.

  3. Budget Minded with Higher Spending: Although budget-friendliness remains a priority when selecting accommodations, 40% of participants reported spending between 15-30% more for scuba trips compared to usual vacations.

  4. Dive Trips Average 4-7 Days: Short trips of four to seven days are prevalent, favored by 48% of divers, alongside 41% opting for weekend excursions, showcasing a demand for brief but thrilling experiences.

  5. Reef Diving is Preferred: A notable 75% of divers expressed an interest in exploring reef areas, underlining their appeal due to diverse ecosystems and vibrant coral structures prevalent in Asian waters.
