Aiming to Enhance Global Trade
Emirates SkyCargo has officially entered a partnership with Teleport, the cargo division of AirAsia, by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) during the ongoing IATA World Cargo Symposium in Dubai. This collaboration is set to support increasing trade between Southeast Asia and global markets through enhanced logistics.
The agreement was formalized by Badr Abbas, Divisional Senior Vice President at Emirates SkyCargo, and Pete Chareonwongsak, Chief Executive of Teleport.
Key Objectives: Under this MoU, both companies will implement initiatives to better streamline cargo operations which include:
- Expanding interline cargo alternatives
- Enhancing block space agreements These improvements aim to better link ASEAN businesses with worldwide markets.
Regional Impact Southeast Asia is significant for global manufacturing, particularly in sectors like electronics, clothing, and pharmaceuticals. The partnership will facilitate the growing volume of air cargo flow, anticipated to reach approximately 2.5 million tonnes in 2024, particularly toward the Middle East and Europe.
Over recent years, the UAE has bolstered economic ties with several Southeast Asian nations through Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreements (CEPA), including Malaysia, Indonesia, and Cambodia. The Emirates and Teleport collaboration aims to further these beneficial relationships, improving trade flows and creating new business opportunities.
In conclusion, this partnership will enable Teleport to consolidate all AirAsia’s cargo capacities across various Southeast Asian networks while benefiting Emirates SkyCargo by expanding its global reach into over 145 destinations.
