With the Songkran festival just around the corner, Traveloka, a leading online travel platform in Southeast Asia, reveals its data on the most sought-after Thai destinations for the holiday.

  • Bangkok retains its title as the most searched destination, embodying the vibrant spirit of Songkran.

According to the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), the upcoming Songkran festivities might generate up to 26.5 billion baht in tourism income, attracting both international visitors (approximately 476,000) and 4.4 million domestic travelers. This indicates a year-on-year growth of 7% in international tourists and 9% domestically.

  4. Phuket - Combines beach fun with spiritual practices during the celebrations.
  5. Hatyai - Offers vibrant festivities and water battles in Central Festival Hatyai.

Emerging Destinations

Traveloka’s insights reveal that Thai travelers are increasingly venturing towards lesser-known locales such as Chumphon, Nakhon Phanom, Sakon Nakhon, Loei, and Nan. These destinations provide serene and authentic experiences centered around nature and local cultures.

This shift also influences accommodation preferences, with travelers leaning towards a mix of hotels, resorts, and hostels to cater to varied tastes during the festive season.
