
Qantas has made a significant move by launching its first direct flight from Darwin to Singapore, with the inaugural service taking off on Sunday, March 30, 2025. This new option not only boosts international connections for the Northern Territory but also enhances travel infrastructures for both locals and tourists.
A Convenient Route to Asia and Europe
This route adds over 70,000 seats yearly between Darwin and Singapore, offering travelers an efficient connection to Europe via Qantas’ A380 services. The flights will operate four times a week, utilizing the Boeing 737-800. The flight has a travel time of just under five hours and includes Business Class and Economy seats, plus access to lounges for eligible Frequent Flyers.
Promotion and Increased Accessibility
To commemorate the launch, Qantas has introduced discounted fares starting from $519 for the return trip in Economy, including complementary services. Cam Wallace, Qantas’ CEO International, stated: “This new service offers an important international link for Territorians, enhancing trade with Singapore and positioning Darwin as a prime stop for international travelers interested in exploring Australia.”
Benefits for Local Economy
The Northern Territory is poised to benefit significantly from this new route. Minister Robyn Cahill described the achievement as a means for increased competition and improved connectivity. Rob Porter from the Airport Development Group underscored the implications for tourism and trade. Additionally, Oliver Chong from Singapore Tourism stated that the accessibility would enrich the experiences for Australian travelers.
The route symbolizes a historic bonding between Darwin and Qantas, stretching back to May 1935. With this new direct link, Qantas aims to strengthen its legacy while enhancing travel experiences for various purposes across the Northern Territory.
