EasyJet Resumes Operations in Málaga for the Summer 2025 Season

EasyJet has reopened its base in Málaga, increasing seating capacity and introducing new routes for the upcoming summer season.

EasyJet has reopened its Málaga base for the summer season, which runs from March to October, offering over 2.1 million available seats—an 11% increase from the same period in 2024. To announce this schedule and reflect on the impact of tourism in Málaga, easyJet held a discussion panel inaugurated by Yolanda de Aguilar, Secretary General for Tourism. The event featured prominent representatives from the sector, including Esperanza González, CEO of Tourism and Planning Costa del Sol; José Carlos Escribano, President of the Chamber of Commerce of Málaga; and Javier Gándara, General Director of easyJet in Southern Europe.

Yolanda de Aguilar expressed gratitude to the airline for its commitment to Andalusia, noting that this collaboration strengthens connectivity and the innovative tourism strategy in the region. “Our tourist proposal is constantly evolving,” she stated. The expansion of easyJet in Málaga is also highlighted by the addition of five new routes, including Leeds Bradford, Newcastle, Marrakech, Rabat, and Zurich, with some routes already operational while others will commence shortly. In total, the airline will connect Málaga with 23 destinations this season.

Javier Gándara emphasized the significance of Málaga to easyJet, proudly stating the launch of their fifth operational year with increased capacity and new routes, indicating, “We aim to provide affordable and convenient connections to attractive destinations.” Esperanza González perceived the reopening as excellent news that will enhance air connectivity and create new economic opportunities. “We will collaborate with airlines and industry stakeholders to strengthen quality and sustainable tourism,” she assured. José Carlos Escribano highlighted tourism as a strategic pillar for the local economy, stressing the essential role of the Málaga-Costa del Sol Airport in this context. He also underscored the necessity to adopt innovations that enhance traveler experiences and make businesses more competitive.

The reopening in Málaga follows similar events in Palma de Mallorca and Alicante, boosting easyJet’s total capacity in Spain to over 14.5 million seats for this season, a 7% increase from 2024. Since its arrival in Spain 29 years ago, easyJet has transported nearly 260 million passengers and currently operates 234 routes from its bases in Barcelona, Málaga, Palma de Mallorca, and Alicante.
