Saudi Arabia’s youngest and rapidly expanding low-cost airline, flyadeal, has joined the International Air Transport Association (IATA), a leading trade organization in the airline industry. This membership came after flyadeal successfully passed IATA’s Operational Safety Audit (IOSA), which is regarded as the highest safety accreditation in the industry.

Steven Greenway, CEO of flyadeal, expressed his excitement, stating: “It’s an extreme honour for flyadeal to be welcomed into an industry institute that IATA is. The International Air Transport Association is steeped in history representing the interests of members with a single collective voice.”

The CEO emphasized that as flyadeal has grown since its inception in 2017, being a member of IATA became a necessity, especially as safety remains a top priority. Greenway noted that they are joining their full-service sister airline, Saudia, which has long been an established member of IATA. This year marks the 80th anniversaries for both Saudia and IATA, making the occasion even more significant for flyadeal.

Kamil Alawadhi, IATA’s Regional Vice President for Africa and the Middle East, remarked: “We are delighted to welcome flyadeal as the newest member of the IATA family. Their inclusion highlights the importance of flyadeal’s contribution to the rapid growth of aviation in Saudi Arabia.”

Alawadhi applauded the remarkable progress the country has made in developing a world-class aviation sector. This membership reflects Saudi Arabia’s dedication to enhancing connectivity and promoting sustainable industry growth.

Celebrating this new membership, flyadeal’s management team hosted an IATA delegation at their headquarters in Jeddah, marking the occasion with a cake-cutting ceremony.

Through its IATA membership, flyadeal can engage in several working groups that focus on safety, sustainability, and digital transformation, all essential areas currently being embraced by the aviation sector.
