The Museum of the Future, in association with Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), has revealed a prototype aerial taxi designed by Joby Aviation. This installation on the museum’s Tomorrow, Today floor represents Dubai’s ambitious vision for smart and sustainable public transport, supporting the Dubai Self-Driving Strategy.
Khaled Al Awadhi, Director of Transportation Systems at RTA’s Public Transport Agency, stated: “We are honoured to showcase the aerial taxi model at the Museum of the Future, which underscores Dubai’s ambition and forward-thinking approach to redefining mobility in this vibrant city. It marks the beginning of a transformative era in urban mobility, with the service expected to start in the first quarter of 2026.”

The aerial taxi features vertical take-off and landing capabilities, prioritizing safety and efficiency. This initiative aims to provide 25% of all trips in Dubai as self-driving by 2030. The project employs advanced electric technology, aligning with global sustainability goals.
The Future of Mobility

The Joby S4 taxi is an innovative, zero-emission aircraft featuring six rotors and a passenger capacity of four, alongside a pilot. Its development marks a significant step for Dubai’s aspiration to establish advanced urban air transport, with initial routes connecting major city landmarks.
Initial impacts of aerial taxi service
A route from Dubai International Airport to Palm Jumeirah is projected to take just 12 minutes, significantly faster than the current 45-minute travel time by car. The new service will also integrate with existing public transport solutions.
First Vertiport Development
Plans for a vertiport capable of handling 42,000 landings annually are in progress, reinforcing Dubai’s position as the first city to offer such advanced urban air transport solutions globally. The RTA, alongside Joby Aviation, is dedicated to ensuring a seamless and quality transport experience for its citizens.
