Hamad International Airport Launches New Concourses D and E

The newly unveiled Concourses D and E at Hamad International Airport increase its annual passenger capacity significantly.

Hamad International Airport (DOH) has officially launched its new Concourses D and E, marking a significant milestone in its expansion with a capacity increase to over 65 million passengers annually.

This expansion enhances traveler comfort and further establishes Doha as a leading global aviation hub. The project, which began in 2018, culminates with the completion of these concourses, representing the final phase of the airport’s ambitious development plan initiated in 2022.

The new concourses offer advanced technology and improved facilities to accommodate rising passenger demand. Now extending 842,000 square meters, the terminal includes 17 new aircraft contact gates, boosting the total to 62.

Qatar Airways Group CEO, Engr. Badr Mohammed Al-Meer, remarked: “Hamad International Airport is more than a gateway; it is a vital pillar of Qatar’s growth and global connectivity. We are thrilled to see this expansion come to fruition ahead of schedule, solidifying our commitment to operational excellence.”

Hamad International Airport COO, Hamad Ali Al Khater, stated: “Our goal is operational excellence that supports current and future demands. The opening of Concourses D and E streamlines passenger flow and strengthens airline connectivity.”

Key Enhancements

  • Smart Technology for Seamless Boarding: New self-boarding systems improve efficiency and decrease wait times.
  • Enhanced Connectivity: Increased gate capacity allows for more direct international routes.
  • Passenger Comfort: Expanded facilities with new retail and dining options enhance the overall traveler experience.
  • Sustainability Commitment: The concourses strive for GSAS 4-Star and LEED Gold certification, focusing on energy efficiency and innovative water management solutions.

The unveiling of Concourses D and E wraps up Hamad International Airport’s broader expansion plan, which includes the introduction of the ORCHARD, a lush indoor tropical garden redefining passenger experience.
