Wyndham Rewards Unveils New Debit Card for Earning Points
Wyndham Rewards introduces a debit card for travelers to earn points without needing a credit card.
Travelers wishing to earn Wyndham Rewards points without the commitment of a credit card now have a fresh option. Partnering with SoFi’s Galileo Financial Technologies platform, Wyndham Rewards has launched a debit card issued by Sunrise Banks, N.A., providing various benefits tailored for travelers.
Benefits Include Points per Spending, Gold Status, and Anniversary Bonuses
This new product, the first of its kind in the hospitality sector, allows users to earn points on their everyday expenditures. Account holders will collect one Wyndham Rewards point for every dollar spent at Wyndham hotels, on groceries, and fuel purchases, and one point for every two dollars spent elsewhere. Furthermore, cardholders automatically receive Gold level status, typically obtained by staying five nights yearly.
New users can earn 2,500 bonus points by completing two direct deposits and spending $100 within the first 90 days post account creation. In addition, users can earn anniversary points based on their yearly spending; they’ll receive points for annual net purchases ranging from $5,000 to $15,000 or more, translating into additional bonus points on their anniversaries.
However, the card comes with a $6 monthly fee, waivable if the account maintains a minimum monthly balance of $2,500. Notably, the card also facilitates ATM access without surcharges within the Cirrus network.
This debit card aims to cater to younger consumers who may not qualify for credit cards or prefer earning points without the burden of debt. Research indicates 70% of Gen Z individuals frequently use debit cards, with significant plans to increase travel spending in 2025; 60% regard loyalty programs as essential for travel planning.
