Bangladesh has made a landmark decision by sending its first group of patients to China for medical treatment, heralding a new chapter in medical tourism between the two countries.
Medical Tourism
On March 10, 2025, a group consisting of 31 individuals including patients, their families, and healthcare professionals departed from Dhaka to Kunming, Yunnan Province, where they will receive medical evaluations and treatment.
The group was sent off with much fanfare, marking this collaborative effort in healthcare. This initiative was attended by Chinese ambassador to Bangladesh, Yao Wen, and Bangladeshi foreign secretary, Mohammed Jashim Uddin, who were present at the send-off.
Yao commented that this inaugural visit is a joint effort to fulfill urgent medical needs, highlighting China’s dedication to assist Bangladesh. He stated, “This initial visit to China is the result of a consensus between our nations and reflects our commitment to addressing medical necessities.”
In reciprocation, Uddin extended his gratitude to the Chinese institutions for their commitment to quality care, expressing hope for deeper cooperation and prosperity between Bangladesh and China.
