AirAsia to Move Domestic Flights to KLIA Terminal 2
AirAsia announced the relocation of its domestic services from Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport (Subang Airport) to Kuala Lumpur International Airport Terminal 2 (KLIA T2), effective April 7.
This decision is aimed at improving operations to meet the increasing demand and to enhance passenger experience.
With passenger volume between Kuala Lumpur and key destinations such as Kota Kinabalu and Kuching rising by 16% year-on-year, consolidating services at KLIA T2 will enable AirAsia to better manage the growing traffic.
Fareh Mazputra, Chief Executive of AirAsia Malaysia, remarked, “Given the increasing demand for our Kota Kinabalu and Kuching routes, consolidating our services at KLIA T2 is the optimal way forward. This move allows us to enhance efficiency and elevate the overall guest experience.”

Mazputra further explained that while Subang Airport has its proximity benefits, KLIA T2’s infrastructure is better suited for scaling operations, especially during peak travel periods.
Additionally, to ensure a smooth transition, operations at Subang Airport will continue during the high-demand Hari Raya week for passenger convenience. The airline has also implemented extensive Service Recovery Options (SROs), including complimentary flight changes and refunds, to alleviate any inconveniences.
Furthermore, collaborative sessions with the Gateway Development Alliance (GDA) consortium aim to ensure that this transition aligns seamlessly with broader infrastructure projects and connectivity goals.
KLIA T2 stands out as a major hub, and AirAsia is set to reinforce its position as a leading carrier while enhancing service across its other key locations in Malaysia.
