The Growing Trend of Women Traveling Alone
Women’s solo travel in India is witnessing a dramatic change, with Gen Z (18-25) making up 40.7% of solo female travelers, based on new data from IntrCity SmartBus. This information comes from an analysis of travel patterns and booking trends for solo female travelers in 2024.
Emerging destinations for spiritual journeys include Ayodhya, Prayagraj, and Amritsar, which have seen increased interest among spiritual travelers. Meanwhile, Goa continues to be the most popular destination for leisure travel for solo women.
An interesting trend is the rise in spiritual tourism among solo female travelers, with locations such as Ayodhya and Prayagraj gaining popularity. Amritsar has also attracted over 10,000 solo women visitors.
Despite the growing interest in spiritual destinations, Goa remains the top leisure choice, with more than 20,000 women visiting solo, primarily coming from cities like Pune, Hyderabad, Mumbai, and Bangalore.
Most solo travelers are planning their trips well in advance, often booking their trips 2-5 days prior, which suggests a thoughtful approach rather than spontaneous decisions. Weekend travelers tend to book their seats even earlier, usually 4-5 days ahead.
The trend of solo travel among women is steadily increasing, with a 3% year-over-year growth in solo female bus travelers from 2022 to 2024. This growth is attributed to enhanced safety measures, better connectivity, and a growing desire for independent exploration. IntrCity SmartBus is dedicated to offering improved mobility solutions to empower women in their travels.
