Finnair has published its inaugural Sustainability Report adhering to the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), a new framework from the European Union for uniform sustainability reporting. This landmark report enhances Finnair’s commitment to transparent and accountable environmental practices, summarizing its sustainability activities with over 500 performance indicators.
Key highlights include:
- Adoption of a new climate target for 2033, aligned with the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) to meet the Paris Agreement’s goal of limiting global warming to 1.5°C.
- Significant progress in reducing emissions by doubling Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) use from 2,266 tons to about 4,700 tons, projected to rise to 1.8% of total kerosene consumption by 2024.
- Advances in circular economy initiatives, decreasing waste per passenger from 340 grams in 2021 to 213 grams currently.
- Social sustainability efforts focused on assessing human rights risks and promoting diversity and inclusion, in partnership with Helsinki Pride.
Finnair is currently developing its transition plan for achieving climate neutrality by 2050.
