TCEB Initiates The Southern MICE District: Phuket Series Project

The Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau initiates a project to enhance the MICE industry in Phuket, aiming to stimulate the local economy and promote sustainable tourism.

The Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB) has launched the Southern MICE District: Phuket Series project to establish Phuket as a model for developing a MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conventions, Exhibitions) economic district. This initiative aims to rejuvenate the local economy while promoting sustainable tourism under a strategy focusing on ‘Spend more, Stay longer, See you again’.

Pattanachai Singhawara, TCEB’s Director, stated: “The MICE industry is evolving rapidly. Today’s travelers seek comprehensive and unique experiences. By establishing this project, we hope to enhance Phuket’s attractiveness as a MICE hub.”

MICE District

The Southern MICE District includes four unique districts: The Old Town, The North Wind, The Lagoon, and The South Shore, each representing various aspects of Phuket’s charm such as history, food, and culture. TCEB plans to replicate this project across other Southern provinces to further stimulate economic opportunities.

TCEB Collaboration

The project aims to create diverse offerings for tourists, including unique local accommodations and various leisure activities. The MICE industry is recognized as a lucrative sector, significantly benefiting local communities and businesses, while enhancing Thailand’s position as a premier destination for international events.

In collaboration with Visa, TCEB also introduced the Thailand MICE Visa Prepaid Card for both local and international MICE travelers, offering discounts and privileges at local restaurants, hotels, and attractions. This strategy aims to increase spending and the number of cardholders in major MICE cities by 2025.
