Cebu Pacific Participates in Mangrove Reforestation Effort in Southern Luzon

Cebu Pacific collaborates with SMBC Aviation Capital and the Ramon Aboitiz Foundation to support local eco-restoration efforts.

Cebu Pacific, a low-cost airline based in the Philippines, has partnered with SMBC Aviation Capital and the Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Inc. (RAFI) to engage in a mangrove planting initiative in Sitio Sulok, Lian, Batangas.

The project included the planting of 3,000 mangrove seedlings aimed at restoring essential coastal ecosystems while empowering local communities.

Twenty-seven volunteers from Cebu Pacific took part in the planting alongside representatives from SMBC Aviation Capital and RAFI.

A Commitment to Sustainability

Their involvement highlights the airline’s dedication to sustainability and corporate social responsibility (CSR). According to Felix Lopez, the airline’s Chief Human Resources Officer, “Cebu Pacific is committed to initiatives that create positive change, not just for our passengers, but also for the communities we serve. This project reflects our strong focus on environmental stewardship and volunteerism, providing our employees with an opportunity to contribute to long-term community efforts.”

For Cebu Pacific, this initiative is part of a broader CSR strategy embracing projects that promote environmental conservation and support local communities while encouraging their employees to volunteer.

Partners in Environmental Care

As one of the largest aircraft leasing firms globally, SMBC Aviation Capital views this program as integral to its sustainability goals. David Swan, Chief Operations and Sustainability Officer, stated, “SMBC Aviation Capital is devoted to corporate social responsibility and sustainability initiatives that extend beyond our daily operations and into the communities that we are part of. Through this partnership, we are making an investment in a project that will benefit both the environment and the people who depend on these vital resources.”

The project is expected to provide livelihood opportunities for the local community in Sitio Sulok. Members of the Samahan ng Mangingisda sa Sulok (SAMLOK) organization will oversee seedling production, site preparation, and sustained management of the mangrove area.
