Namibia Launches Online Visa-on-Arrival to Simplify Travel for International Visitors
Namibia has unveiled an online visa-on-arrival system to facilitate easier travel for international tourists and business visitors.
Namibia has launched a new online Visa-on-Arrival (VoA) system, allowing eligible travelers to apply digitally before their arrival. The system went live on March 3, 2025, with applications becoming accessible starting April 1, 2025.
The initiative by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety and Security (MHISS) aims to simplify entry procedures, boost tourism, and enhance travel accessibility to Namibia from countries that lack a reciprocal visa agreement. Under this new system, travelers can apply for a VoA online, at a Namibian consular post, or upon arrival at designated ports of entry. All applicants need to provide a valid passport, a motivation letter for their travel, proof of sufficient funds, accommodation confirmation, a booked itinerary, and medical insurance.
New Visa Structure and Fees
The Visa-on-Arrival fee is set at NAD 1,600 (approximately USD 85) for non-African travelers and NAD 1,200 (approximately USD 64) for African travelers. Digital processing is expected to reduce wait times, facilitating a seamless entry experience for tourists and business visitors.
Currently, Namibia offers visa exemptions to travelers from 55 countries, including 18 nations with reciprocal visa agreements. The government aims to encourage more reciprocity through this new visa regime while also generating additional revenue for the tourism and immigration sectors.
Enhancing Global Connectivity
Namibia’s tourism and business sectors are poised to significantly benefit from this new visa process, aligning with global trends to digitalize immigration systems for easier travel. This VoA system is part of broader initiatives to modernize Namibia’s border management, ensuring more efficient and traveler-friendly entry.
