Philippines Collaborates with MECO to Enhance Sports Tourism in Taiwan

The Philippines is set to boost Taiwanese tourism by focusing on sports attractions, specifically golf and diving.

The Philippines is aiming to significantly increase tourism from Taiwan through a focus on sports experiences, particularly in golf and diving.

On February 19, the Department of Tourism (DOT) announced a partnership with the Manila Economic and Cultural Office (MECO) to implement various initiatives that include joint promotional campaigns to attract Taiwanese tourists.

During a courtesy visit on February 18, Secretary Christina Frasco and MECO Chair Cheloy Velicaria-Garafil discussed this partnership. The meeting provided a chance to review strategic plans aimed at fostering tourism cooperation between the two regions.

They also talked about updating the existing Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on tourism cooperation to deepen their collaborative efforts.

Garafil mentioned that MECO is committed to enhancing tourism ties with Taiwan, focusing on engaging the Taiwanese market through sports tourism offerings, including golf courses and diving sites.

She emphasized that joint marketing strategies, policy backing, and improved travel connections will position the Philippines as a desirable destination for Taiwanese travelers. Notably, the planned direct flight from Taipei to Bohol in April is anticipated to boost Taiwanese arrivals in the Philippines.
