Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL) is embarking on a significant renovation of Terminal 1 (T1). The modernization will redefine the passenger experience, making it a benchmark for sustainable airport design. This updated terminal will be capable of handling 20 million passengers annually—a substantial increase reflecting Mumbai’s growth as an international aviation hub.

Key Features:

  • Passenger Terminal Building Revamp: A complete overhaul catering to domestic operations with an eye on integrating international services.
  • State-of-the-Art Infrastructure: Including updates like district cooling and advanced baggage handling systems.
  • Enhanced Connectivity: A Multi-Modal Transit Hub (MMTH) to improve access to rail and road networks.
  • Biophilic Design: Featuring indoor greenery and natural light to energize and uplift travelers.

The phased redevelopment will begin with the demolition of the existing structure in November 2025, ensuring minimal disruption while prioritizing passenger safety and convenience. Jeet Adani stated, “This redevelopment is about future-proofing our city’s place on the global stage.”

Upon completion, T1 will represent India’s leadership in eco-conscious airport design.
