TUI's Top 10 Triggers to Book a Holiday This Payday

TUI UK reveals the key factors that push over 10 million Brits to book their summer holidays during paydays.

More than 10 million Brits are eager to book their summer holidays as soon as payday arrives, according to recent findings by TUI UK&I. With a significant portion (22%) feeling burned out after the festive season, planning trips serves as a much-needed distraction during the dreary winter months.

TUI has identified the top 10 reasons that compel Brits to finalize their pay day holiday bookings:

  1. Dark, rainy commutes home from work
  2. Another storm hitting the UK
  3. Clearing a credit card
  4. Caving on new year’s resolutions
  5. Getting money from selling unwanted Christmas presents
  6. Defrosting the car again
  7. Making another freezing trek to the kitchen for hot water
  8. A passive-aggressive email from a work adversary
  9. Cancelling plans due to a train strike
  10. Needing to get to a beach after watching Moana 2 for the 100th time

Neil Swanson, TUI’s Managing Director, commented: “Let’s face it, we all need something to look forward to after a rainy and chilly start to the year. Our poll shows it’s the little things that push us over the edge, like trudging home in the rain, bracing for yet another storm, or chipping away at that frost-covered car every morning. Whatever your ‘final straw’, TUI is here to help. Whether you need a luxury escape, a pocket-friendly package, or just a bucket-list beach to lie on, we’ve got the perfect answer to turn those holiday dreams into reality.”

As winter continues to plague the UK, it is unsurprising that those planning summer vacations are yearning for sunshine. The preferred getaway types for January bookings include beach holidays (28%), relaxation holidays (28%), and all-inclusive breaks (22%).

In terms of destinations, the UK is divided between adventurers eager to explore new places (30%) and those returning to beloved favorites (28%). On average, sun-seekers spend around 8.55 days hunting for travel deals before finally booking their vacations, which often exceeds their actual vacation time.
