2024 Travel Trends Analysis in Bali

Experts from the Unud Tourism Excellence Center in Bali recently shared their findings on tourism trends and traveler behaviors observed over the past year.

Increased Traveler Spending

Visitors to the Denpasar Regency have raised their average spending by 11.3% when compared to last year, reaching approximately IDR 2,242,540 per traveler.

Visitor Profiles

While many tourists stay for 7 to 14 days, there are a significant number of shorter visits as well.

What Do Tourists Spend On?

Travel expenses mainly include:

  • Accommodation
  • Food and drink
  • Local transportation
  • Souvenir shopping
  • Tour guides
  • Entrance fees to attractions
  • Water sports and adventure activities
  • Spa and wellness activities
  • Nightlife entertainment

According to Nyoman Ariana, researcher: “Spa and wellness activities are increasingly popular with tourists visiting Denpasar. Therefore, spa and wellness tourism is crucial to develop thoughtfully for the future.”

Visitor Statistics

By November 2024, Denpasar welcomed 1,772,975 overnight tourists, composed of 448,425 international visitors and 1,324,550 domestic travelers. Domestic tourists increased their spending by 3.5%.

Nationalities of Tourists

Most international visitors hailed from Australia, followed by the Netherlands and Germany, with the average age ranging from 27 to 42 years. Domestic visitors mainly traveled from Jakarta, East Java, and Central Java.

Information Sources

Most foreign tourists sought information through Instagram and Facebook, while domestic travelers used Instagram and TikTok. This insight provides opportunities for tourism managers to effectively promote their offerings.
