Norwegian Spirit Arrives in the Northern Philippines

Norwegian Cruise Line’s vessel Norwegian Spirit docked at the Port of Currimao, Ilocos Norte, on December 25th. This marks the ship’s first voyage to the northern gateway of Luzon in the Philippines.

The vessel carried approximately 2,104 passengers and an 887-member crew after departing from Taipei on December 22nd.

A Traditional Welcome

Upon arrival, both passengers and crew were greeted by cultural dancers from Currimao, who performed at the port before a simple welcome ceremony conducted by representatives from the Philippine Ports Authority, Department of Tourism, and local government officials.

The guests were given the opportunity to visit several heritage sites in the Ilocos Region, including the famous cities of Vigan, Laoag, Paoay, and Badoc.

According to the Department of Tourism (DOT), the arrival of cruise ships in various parts of the country signals a vibrant cruise tourism sector that could bring lasting benefits to local and national economies.

As 2024 concludes, the DOT is optimistic about achieving its target of 109 cruise calls in 46 destinations nationwide, with scheduled operations extending into 2027.
