Taiwan Sees Surge in Tourist Arrivals
The Taiwan Tourism Administration announced that international arrivals to the country exceeded 7.85 million in 2024.
In a press briefing on Tuesday, 31st December, TTA director-general Chou Yung-hui praised the recovery of Taiwan’s travel and tourism sectors after the pandemic.
For 2025, Chou aims to develop tourism markets within a four- to eight-hour flight radius, targeting India, New Zealand, and Australia as focal points. Additionally, new tourism information centers will be established in Sydney and Mumbai.
Identifying Key Markets
Chou highlighted North America and Europe as pivotal markets for Taiwan’s tourism growth, with plans for more tourist information centers in Seattle and Amsterdam. Moreover, the number of visitors from South Korea surpassed one million in 2024, while Japanese visitors increased by about 50% over the previous year.
Opening the North to Travelers
To attract first-time foreign visitors, focus will shift towards promoting northern Taiwan, especially destinations like Keelung’s Heping Island and Yilan’s Zhuangwei to Thai tourists.
The TTA plans to enhance shopping options for luxury travelers from Thailand and will continue to offer discounts on Taiwan High Speed Rail tickets to encourage exploration of regions outside Taipei.
Planned major events for this year include the Taiwan Lantern Festival, Taiwan Cycling Festival, and L’Etape Sun Moon Lake to further promote tourism.
