
Taiwan Launches Digital Nomad Visa for Remote Workers
Taiwan has announced a digital nomad visa allowing remote workers to stay in the country for up to six months, with hopes to attract talent from the region.
Taiwan’s National Development Council has officially introduced a new Digital Nomad Visa, which allows remote workers to stay in the country for up to six months.
This initiative, initiated on December 20th, is designed to attract foreign professionals looking to work remotely. Based on international practices, it will be issued on a trial basis, with potential adjustments depending on its success.
According to NDC Minister Liu Chin-ching, Taiwan is recognized for its favorable conditions to attract digital nomad talent, especially from nearby regions such as Japan and South Korea.
Who Qualifies for the Digital Nomad Visa?
The visa targets:
- Remote workers already employed in Taiwan.
- Applicants from other countries with intentions to work remotely while in Taiwan.
- Individuals aged 30+ with an annual income of at least $60,000, or those aged 20-29 earning $24,000 or more in the previous year.
Key Features of the Visa
- Initial validity: Three months (can be extended for another three months).
- Prior digital nomad visa holders from other countries may bypass certain review processes.
- Family members can accompany the applicant but must have insurance coverage.
In parallel, the Taiwanese government, following President Lai Ching-te’s directive, will allocate NT$150 billion yearly to boost entrepreneurship and innovation in order to foster a supportive ecosystem for digital nomads.
