Queen Mary 2 Contributes to Coastal Clean-Up in Dominica
The Cunard cruise ship's crew participates in a beach clean-up effort in Dominica, showcasing their dedication to environmental preservation.
Cunard’s flagship ship, Queen Mary 2, participated in a coastal clean-up last month at Salisbury Beach on Dominica’s west coast.
The effort is part of Cunard’s ongoing commitment to environmental conservation.
The visit was part of a Caribbean Celebration cruise that started from New York.
The clean-up effort, lasting two hours, was organized by the ship’s environmental officer, Robert Price, in collaboration with the Discover Dominica Authority and Salisbury Council.
Extensive Clean-Up Operation
The Cunard team, along with 12 local volunteers, covered an area of 20,000 square meters, collecting an impressive 25 kg of waste across 30 bags. They removed various materials, including glass, plastics, fishing nets, ropes, metal bars, and bottle caps.
Captain Aseem Hashmi remarked: “Our wonderful team of volunteers are very proud to have participated in Queen Mary 2’s first Dominica beach clean-up and through their passion for sustainability and environmental protection, helped make a big difference to the local marine environment. This initiative is a reflection of our shared responsibility to preserve the beauty and health of these vital ecosystems for future generations. By working together with local communities, we aim to inspire meaningful change and contribute to a cleaner, more sustainable future.”
This initiative aligns with a series of beach cleans carried out in the UK throughout 2024 in support of the Marine Conservation Society.
