Germany Launches New Digital Portal for Visa Applications
The German government has introduced a digital platform to streamline visa applications for individuals worldwide.
Germany’s Foreign Ministry has introduced a new digital platform for visa applications, aimed at simplifying the process for those looking to work, study, or reunite with family in Germany. This initiative is hailed by Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock as a “real administrative revolution.”
The platform, available here, allows applicants from around the globe to access the necessary documents more easily. They can choose from 28 categories of national visas online. The new portal became operational on January 1, 2025, and is accessible from all 167 of Germany’s visa offices globally.
Overhauling Visa Process
Baerbock emphasized the importance of the reform, stating it was long overdue. “Every year, Germany faces a shortage of at least 400,000 skilled workers,” she remarked.
She further stated, “At times like these, we cannot afford to delay attracting the best talent due to lengthy paper applications and excessive wait times.”
The online application is a modern solution that has been much anticipated by both small businesses and large corporations looking to enhance Germany’s position as a favorable business location.
