The hospitality industry is under pressure as outdated systems struggle to meet AI-driven demands, highlighting critical gaps in execution.
Hotels Grapple with Rising Operational Costs as Old Systems Lag Behind AI Needs
The hospitality industry has invested heavily over the past decade in digitizing demand through instant search capabilities, AI-driven pricing, and real-time bookings across platforms. However, behind this sophisticated digital façade, many hotels still rely on fragmented processes, manual interventions, and outdated systems. K.D. Singh, Founder & President of Travelbullz, addressed this issue during his presentation at the TDM Global Summit Bangkok 2026.
Beyond the Booking Engine: Orchestrating the 2026 B2B Ecosystem
Singh noted that, while booking processes have been digitized effectively, operational execution has not kept pace. This disconnection presents a significant opportunity for transformation.
The invisible gap between booking and execution: While travel distribution seems seamless on the surface—with platforms offering instant search, comparison, and bookings—behind the scenes, challenges persist. Manual updates on rates, delayed inventory synchronizations, and integration gaps between property management systems (PMS) and central reservation systems (CRS) create friction in the booking process. Singh emphasized, “We digitized booking, but we didn’t digitize execution.”
Where the System Breaks
Operational crack points emerge in various hospitality layers. Promotions might launch without updated rates, static offers may conflict with dynamic inventory, and sales teams often work at cross purposes with revenue teams, resulting in chaos: incorrect inventory listings, last-minute crisis management, manual post-booking tasks, and subpar customer experiences. Singh asserts that this isn’t solely a technological issue but rather a challenge of orchestration—streamlining connected workflows from digital transactions. He advised, “Don’t eliminate offline. Absorb it,” advocating for a model that harmonizes digital and manual processes.
Why orchestration matters in 2026: In a competitive B2B ecosystem, effective orchestration has become essential. Hotels that can enhance speed, agility, and aligned decision-making will thrive by integrating demand generation, pricing, inventory management, and operations.
Through optimized yield and occupancy, businesses can enhance profitability while improved workflows minimize repetitive tasks and reduce operating costs. Eventually, creating a consistent and reliable customer experience becomes pivotal. The risks of inaction are substantial—ranging from lost high-value demand to contradictory pricing and inconsistent service.
The Path Ahead
Previously, booking engines were viewed as the cornerstone of digital transformation. But Singh encourages the industry to move beyond just booking systems toward a comprehensive orchestration that connects all facets of hotel operation, transforming bookings into a seamless execution chain. Success in 2026 hinges not just on rapid room sales but on flawless delivery of those bookings.
