Holland America Introduces $500M Fleet Revamp

Holland America Line is launching a multi-year, $500 million program to update its fleet, marking the most significant upgrade in the company's long history.

Holland America Line has announced Holland America Evolution, a multiyear, $500 million program that will deliver the largest fleet update in the company’s 153‑year history. Six mid-size ships—Vista Class vessels Oosterdam, Zuiderdam, Westerdam and Noordam, plus Signature Class ships Nieuw Amsterdam and Eurodam—will undergo a comprehensive revitalization that brings popular Pinnacle Class features, new stateroom categories, and refreshed public spaces across much of the fleet.

What Holland America Evolution Involves

This initiative aims to expand onboard options while keeping the intimate atmosphere Holland America is known for. In collaboration with long-time shipbuilding partner Fincantieri, new dining and bar concepts will be introduced, along with the reimagining of key guest spaces and the addition of more staterooms and suites to enhance traveler customizability. The investment will focus on experiences guests consistently rate highly, featuring Pinnacle Class hallmarks like the Grand Dutch Café on more ships for the first time.

The program will be implemented ship by ship over several years, with each dry-dock introducing a tailored mix of enhancements, including updated aesthetics, improved natural light, better flow between spaces, and an elegant yet classic design language to bridge the older ships with the latest members of the fleet.

Oosterdam: First Look At New Cabins And Café

Oosterdam will be the pioneer ship for Holland America Evolution, unveiling its refit in fall 2027. As part of the project, Oosterdam will gain 76 additional staterooms, incorporating all-new categories and expanded suite options while preserving the beloved “room at the rail” open-deck experience valued by loyal guests.

Key accommodation highlights on Oosterdam include:

  • Solo Verandahs – 30 specially designed balcony cabins tailored for solo travelers, featuring private verandahs, dedicated workspace, and full amenities.
  • Bridgeview Suites – Two expansive suites at the bow with wraparound balconies and 180-degree views, designed to mimic the perspective from the ship’s bridge.
  • A renewed Pinnacle Suite – The largest suite ever introduced on a Vista Class ship, offering ample living space, separate relaxation areas, and panoramic views.
  • Vista Suites – 24 Pinnacle Class-style suites added to Oosterdam, featuring generous seating arrangements, oversized windows, and private verandahs.

Oosterdam will also introduce the Grand Dutch Café, a year-round venue inspired by European café culture and the line’s Dutch heritage, situated near the atrium on Deck 3 and envisioned as a social hub for coffee, light bites, and casual gatherings throughout the day.

Sustainability And Smarter Design

Sustainability is central to the Holland America Evolution program, with each refit aimed at reducing environmental impact and enhancing energy efficiency. Interior updates will focus on waste reduction and circular design principles, emphasizing upcycling, material reuse, and durable finishes that create a lighter and more contemporary appearance without unnecessary replacements.

Additionally, the line is investing in smarter power management and upgraded technical systems to lower energy demands and mitigate operational carbon intensity over time. These efforts align with Holland America’s broader sustainability goals concerning fuel efficiency, waste management, and community engagement, and adhere to Carnival Corporation’s environmental objectives for 2030 and 2050.
