Princess Cruises Unveils Plans for Three New LNG-Powered Voyager Class Ships

Princess Cruises has announced the order of three advanced Voyager Class cruise ships, set to enhance its premium cruising experience.

Princess Cruises has confirmed an order for three new Voyager Class cruise ships, marking the largest and most advanced platform in the line’s history. Built by Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri and scheduled for delivery in late 2035, 2038, and 2039, these next-generation vessels are designed to enhance the destination-focused experience of Princess while bolstering its market position in premium cruising.

Largest Ships Ever For Princess Cruises

The Voyager Class ships will each measure around 183,000 gross tons and accommodate approximately 4,700 guests, making them the largest vessels by capacity in the Princess fleet. This new platform will integrate Princess’s well-loved venues and experiences — including its signature Piazza, diverse dining options, and entertainment — with upgraded outer decks, redesigned staterooms, and new public spaces tailored for global operations.

These ships build on the award-winning Sphere Class (Sun Princess and Star Princess), incorporating successful design elements while adding new features to adapt to evolving guest expectations. Full details about the onboard layout, new amenities, and specific venue concepts will be disclosed closer to launch, but it has been established that the Voyager Class aims to create a destination-rich, resort-style environment at sea.

Dual-Fuel LNG Technology And Sustainability Focus

Like the Sun and Star Princess, the Voyager Class will be dual-fuel powered, primarily utilizing Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) — currently the most advanced marine fuel technology available at scale. The use of LNG propels immediate reductions in greenhouse gas emissions and significantly curtails local air pollutants compared to traditional marine fuels.

These three ships will mark Carnival Corporation’s 19th, 20th, and 21st LNG-powered vessels, reinforcing the company’s roadmap towards decarbonization and fleet modernization. Coupled with optimized hull forms, energy-efficient onboard systems, and advanced marine technologies, LNG positions the Voyager Class as a more sustainable choice for guests seeking eco-friendly cruise holidays.

Part Of A Long-Term Fleet Enhancement Strategy

The Voyager Class orders are part of Carnival Corporation’s broader fleet enhancement strategy, aiming to boost demand for cruising, the fastest-growing segment in the vacation industry, while managing overall capacity growth. Alongside these three ships expected in the latter half of the 2030s, Carnival has seven more newbuilds under contract for delivery between 2027 and 2033 across its various brands.

Princess’s Voyager Class order indicates a future flagship platform that combines larger scale with a strong focus on design, technology, and destination immersion, extending the line’s iconic “Love Boat” legacy into the next decade. With deliveries stretching to 2039, this order manifests Princess Cruises’ confidence in the sustained demand for high-quality cruise experiences.
