Portland Launches New Art Trail Inspired by LAIKA's Film

Introduction of 'Wildwood: Follow the Crows' art trail aims to enrich Portland's cultural scene through community engagement.

Portland is gearing up for an exciting August unveiling of the “Wildwood: Follow the Crows” art trail. This self-guided adventure is inspired by LAIKA’s latest stop-motion film, Wildwood, and will turn downtown Portland into an expansive art gallery. Visitors will discover monumental crow sculptures crafted by a variety of local and regional artists.

Every installation will uniquely interpret the film’s themes, encouraging guests to navigate the city in an innovative manner.

The initiative seeks to emulate the success of prior Portland art trails, such as the one inspired by LAIKA’s Coraline, which notably boosted visitor numbers and overall engagement. It aims to enhance foot traffic and bolster local businesses, further establishing Portland’s identity as a cultural landmark.

Partnered with LAIKA and local organizations, including OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital, this endeavor also has a charitable angle. At the conclusion of the trail, the artworks will be auctioned off, with the proceeds directed to pediatric healthcare services, allowing attendees to participate in an enriching artistic experience that supports a noble cause.

To assist in navigation, tailored maps and digital tools will be made available to guide attendees along the route, ensuring that whether one is a family, film enthusiast, or culture lover, this art trail will offer an engaging exploration of Portland’s distinct neighborhoods.

“Wildwood: Follow the Crows” is part of a bigger initiative to rejuvenate downtown Portland, fostering a reconnection between residents and tourists alike through art and community engagement.
