Indian Gen Z Redefines Travel with Shorter, More Flexible Getaways
A new report reveals that Indian Gen Z travelers are opting for shorter trips, emphasizing experiences over long vacations.
Indian Gen Z travelers are reshaping the travel landscape by favoring shorter and more frequent trips, placing a premium on experiences over traditional long vacations, as reported in Agoda’s 2026 Travel Outlook Report. The survey reveals a generation that prioritizes flexibility and seeks to integrate travel into their everyday lives.
Notably, 84% of Indian Gen Z respondents intend to undertake between one and six trips each year, with 72% favoring stays lasting one to seven days. These trends echo similar patterns observed in Thailand and Vietnam, where travel is evolving into a consistent lifestyle choice rather than a seasonal excursion.
For this demographic, the travel essence lies in experiences rather than mere destinations. Key motivators include cultural exploration (56%) and outdoor activities (36%), with relaxation being significant for 72% of participants. This mindset influences Gen Z to select travel destinations based on the enriching experiences they promise, whether that involves cultural immersion or outdoor adventures.
In expressing this paradigm shift, Gaurav Malik, Country Director for the India Subcontinent and Indian Ocean Islands at Agoda, stated, “For Gen Z in India, travel is increasingly becoming a frequent part of their lifestyle rather than an occasional activity. What stands out is how consciously this generation is planning travel by prioritizing flexibility and experiences that align with their interests.”
Agoda actively nurtures this evolving travel behavior, providing a broad spectrum of options spanning flights, accommodations, and activities, enabling Gen Z to tailor trips to their schedules and preferences. With an offering of over 6 million holiday properties and more than 130,000 flight routes, Agoda’s platform accommodates diverse travel needs and priorities.
