Vingroup, in coordination with the People’s Committees from Quang Ninh, Hanoi, Hai Phong, and Bac Ninh, has officially initiated the Hanoi–Quang Ninh high-speed railway project. This project, anticipated to be completed by late 2028, will feature a maximum design speed of 350 km/h, reducing travel time between Hanoi and Quang Ninh from over two hours to just about 23 minutes.
The development, led by VinSpeed High-Speed Railway Investment and Development Joint Stock Company—a subsidiary of Vingroup—entails a massive investment exceeding 147 trillion VND (approximately 5.6 billion USD). The railway, extending 120.2 km, will incorporate double-track standard-gauge lines and premier signaling systems provided by Siemens Mobility, with plans for technology transfer to VinSpeed.
The line will commence at Co Loa Station in Hanoi, concluding at Ha Long Station in Quang Ninh, with intermediate stops including Bac Ninh, Hai Phong, and Quang Ninh. The project aims to stimulate the economy in the Northern Key Economic Region and elevate Vietnam’s national competitiveness.
Bui Van Khang, the Chairman of Quang Ninh Province’s People’s Committee, emphasized the project’s importance, stating, “The Hanoi–Quang Ninh high-speed railway is a megaproject that carries significant expectations.” Moreover, Nguyen Viet Quang, Vice Chairman and CEO of Vingroup, remarked, “Today’s launch reinforces Vingroup’s unwavering commitment to enhancing infrastructure development in the country.”
This initiative follows VinSpeed’s groundbreaking of the Ben Thanh–Can Gio railway line in Ho Chi Minh City in December 2025, further solidifying Vingroup’s role in advancing Vietnam’s transport infrastructure.
