Vilnius is recognized as a favorable destination for women traveling alone, according to the Women Peace and Security Index.
Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania, has emerged as a top destination for solo female travellers, according to the Women Peace and Security (WPS) Index. Lithuania ranks 16th out of 181 countries, highlighting its strong performance in inclusion, justice, and security. This ranking positions Vilnius as a safe and welcoming city for women travelling alone.
The Solo Female Travel Trends Survey indicates that women now make up 75% of solo travellers worldwide, with safety being a primary concern for 70% of them. Eglė Girdzijauskaitė, Head of Communications at Go Vilnius, stated, “Vilnius has been ranked as one of the safest cities in Europe for a while.” The city offers a friendly and easy-to-navigate environment, encouraging exploration.
Vilnius also promotes cultural connection through its “Meet a Local” programme, which pairs visitors with residents for an insider experience. Christine B., a tourist from the United States, praised the initiative, saying, “I cannot emphasize enough what an incredible, innovative concept Meet a Local is.”
Beyond safety, Vilnius attracts visitors with its cultural attractions, stunning scenery, and local cuisine. The city is recognised as one of the world’s greenest, second only to Oslo, and boasts a growing selection of Michelin-starred restaurants. With easy rail and ferry connections to the Baltic region and Scandinavia, Vilnius offers a unique alternative to more crowded European capitals.
