Indonesia Sees 20.27% Rise in Tourist Arrivals for 2024

The Indonesian Central Statistics Agency announced significant growth in foreign tourist visits, marking the highest number in five years.

Indonesia’s Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reported that a total of 12,658,048 foreign tourists visited the country from January to November 2024, achieving the highest level in five years.

BPS deputy for statistics and services Pudji Ismarti stated, “Cumulatively, from January until November 2024, a total of 12,658,048 visitors represents an increase of 20.17 percent compared to 2023.”

The month of November 2024 alone recorded 1,092,067 foreign visitors, marking an increase of roughly 7.27 percent year-over-year.

Malaysians were the majority of foreign arrivals in November, closely followed by travelers from Australia and Singapore.

In terms of duration, foreign tourists spent an average of 6.85 nights in Indonesia in November.

A Decline in Domestic Tourism

The report also highlighted a reduction in domestic tourism, which decreased by around one percent in November compared to October, with 80,612,557 domestic trips recorded, down from 81.43 million the previous month. This dip is believed to be due to the absence of significant holidays, events, or festivals during that time.
