Wyndham Grand Phuket Introduces Electric Shuttle to Enhance Sustainability
Wyndham Grand Phuket Kalim Bay has launched an electric shuttle service for guests, aiming to reduce its carbon footprint and improve guest experience.
Wyndham Grand Phuket Kalim Bay has introduced its first fully electric vehicle (EV) for guest transfers, marking a significant step in its sustainability efforts. The resort, located on a hillside with views of the Andaman Sea, aims to reduce its carbon footprint and fuel consumption whilst offering a quieter experience for guests.
The resort’s expansive layout necessitates frequent shuttle services between its 132 pool villas and various facilities, including the lobby, gym, and spa. With 9,000 to 10,000 internal transfers each month, the shift from traditional vehicles to zero-emission EVs is expected to significantly enhance energy efficiency and reduce noise. The annual CO₂ savings from this transition are projected to be between 12.15 and 27 metric tonnes.
Dominic Egger, General Manager of Wyndham Grand Phuket Kalim Bay, stated, “This initiative marks a significant step forward in our sustainability journey and commitment to environmentally conscious hospitality. By replacing noisy traditional engines with clean electric transport, we’re helping create a more sustainable future for our community and a more peaceful experience for our guests.”
Guests can book transfers via the Wyndham Grand app or the resort’s multilingual AI guide, Kalim. The EV shuttle supports the resort’s 5-star Sustainable Tourism Acceleration Rating from the Tourism Authority of Thailand and complements existing eco-friendly initiatives, such as an onsite organic orchard and a composting programme.
The resort also offers an EV charging station for guests, aligning with Phuket’s eco-tourism focus. This initiative is part of the “Green Hotel Plus Phuket Sandbox” programme, aiming to certify 600 hotels to global green standards. The island will host the Global Sustainable Tourism Conference in May 2026, highlighting these environmental goals.
