New Seahorse Conservation Program Launched at Singapore Oceanarium

The Singapore Oceanarium introduces an interactive program focused on seahorse care and conservation, inviting visitors to learn about marine biodiversity.

Singapore Oceanarium has initiated a new exclusive program titled Animal Spotlight: Seahorses, providing guests with a rare chance to discover the distinctive world of local seahorses and Singapore’s marine biodiversity. This program offers 45-minute guided sessions, limited to eight participants, which present a close view of seahorse care and conservation efforts led by animal care specialists.

Participants will travel through essential habitats within the oceanarium and be granted access to the Seahorse Support Area, where they can observe feeding sessions and learn about the practices of seahorse breeding and husbandry. The program emphasizes the ecological significance of seahorses, renowned for their unique biology such as male pregnancy, and discusses the dangers they face from habitat destruction and pollution.

This initiative also highlights regional conservation initiatives and research collaborations aimed at protecting seahorse populations. According to the program’s statement, “Participants will gain insights into how Singapore Oceanarium supports seahorse conservation through monitoring surveys and cooperative efforts in Southeast Asia.”

The Animal Spotlight: Seahorses program is offered daily at $20.50 (S$28) per participant, which does not include admission to the oceanarium. Each session comes with an exclusive lanyard and credential. This initiative is part of a broader series, which also features manta rays, corals, and jellyfish.

Bookings can be made on the Singapore Oceanarium website. This program reaffirms the oceanarium’s commitment to marine education and conservation, aiming to motivate more substantial efforts for ocean preservation.
