Phuket's Rising Appeal for UK Families as a Residential Destination
Phuket is increasingly becoming a desired location for UK families seeking residential opportunities, supported by enhanced connectivity and ongoing developments.
Phuket has become a highly sought residential destination for families from the UK, largely due to better connectivity and the development of the Laguna Phuket project. This appeal combines security and integration in a global context, attracting not only British buyers but also individuals from other European nations such as France, Germany, and Switzerland.
The transformation from a holiday hotspot to a comprehensive residential hub is becoming increasingly evident. In 2025, Thailand welcomed over 35 million international guests, with long-haul visitors alone surpassing 11 million, reflecting a 13% increase year-on-year. The Tourism Authority of Thailand is focused on enhancing sustainable and premium travel experiences, targeting an annual influx of 14 million high-quality international travelers.
Phuket’s international connectivity has improved significantly, with a year-on-year 16% rise in European flight capacity, exceeding pre-pandemic levels. Direct flights from London and Paris, in addition to emerging routes from Scandinavia, have enhanced access for UK families, promoting longer stays, remote working opportunities, and lifestyle-driven property investments.
The island is now known for its blend of resort amenities combined with essential infrastructure such as world-class healthcare, prestigious schools, yacht marinas, and premier golf courses. It ranks among leading global markets for branded residences, where foreign buyers account for over 60% of condominium acquisitions.
At the heart of this residential transformation is Laguna Phuket, developed by the Banyan Group. Over the last 35 years, it has evolved into one of Asia’s foremost integrated resort and residential communities, covering more than 1,000 acres alongside Bang Tao Beach, with plans for around 5,000 more residences indicating a promising future for UK families looking for stability and long-term value.
